- The problem: Sherwood SPAR wanted to upgrade from a Kwik SPAR to a Super Spar. To do so the Municipality required the SPAR to build a R800k mini-substation.
- Scope of service: Investment Grade Energy Efficiency audit. Modelling and implementation of energy efficiency interventions; daylight harvesting, optimization of LED lighting, implementation of an Energy Management system, tariff optimisation & rooftop Solar PV.
- Outcome: SPAR upgraded with increases in refrigeration and store footprint, whilst saving money on operational costs, without the need to build a mini-substation. A 60% reduction in Carbon Emissions (equal to carbon sequestered by 8,718 hectares of forest in a year) achieved. Additionally the store is purchasing electricity from a third party provider at a discount to Municipal supply.
